Each region is summarised under the following headings: Historical Development, Landscape and Settlement, Farmstead Types, Building Types and Building Materials.
A 2-page summary has been provided for each region, and an example of a longer summary has been provided for the South East region. Consultation will determine how such a summary can be improved and whether the longer summary is necessary.
The Regional Farmstead Character Statements present for the first time in a single place information on farmstead buildings at a broad landscape and regional scale. They also include summaries outlining the historical development of each of the 159 Countryside Character Areas in England.
